sembreak files: ANIME. (10/16/09)

wee... the longer this lasts, the more it gets boring... good thing there's ANIME.

What is ANIME?
Anime is an abbreviated word for "animation". It is basically known to be animation from Japan. It originated about 1917.

It owes its popularity to the Internet due to the anime distributors' new strategy, online distribution. Through that, they get VERY high earnings in internet advertising revenues.

ENOUGH WITH THE FACTS...

Let's see what anime I have been watching lately thanks to the BORING sembreak: (divided into TWO since i've been watching anime since high school)

A) CURRENTLY watching anime:

NARUTO Shippuuden
Continuing the story of Naruto, Naruto Shippuuden is set two (or two and a half) years after Uzumaki Naruto left
with Jiraiya for training. Now grown up, he returns to Konoha with more skill. He now joins his former teammate, Haruno Sakura, and teacher, Hatake Kakashi, to form Team Kakashi. They fight numerous enemies, including the Akatsuki and Orochimaru.

Manga author: Masashi Kishimoto

First aired: February 15, 2007
Day it releases in Japan: Thursday
Where to find it*: Naruto.com(North America only) and Crunchyroll.com (other than North America except Japan)

Comments: It is my LONGEST running watched anime ever (including the original Naruto)... Because of this series, I am now an anime addict!

BLEACH
Bleach is centered on a character named Kurosaki Ichigo. He has a strange ability to see ghosts. Suddenly, his family gets attacked by a "Hollow", creatures who eat souls. But a shinigami named Kuchiki Rukia came and tried to stop the Hollow, but she was severely wounded. Then, she attempted to transfer half of her shinigami powers to Ichigo but he unintentionally absorbs most of her powers, causing him to defeat the Hollow with ease.

Manga author: Tite Kubo
No. of episodes: 241 (as of October 13, 2009)
First aired: October 5, 2004
Day it releases in Japan: Tuesday
Where to find it: Dattebayo Fansubs

Comments: The story is great. The fillers in the past were annoying and really distracting, but the newest filler arc, Zanpakutou Unknown Tales, is okay and makes the anime look fresh and new.

B) NEWLY watched anime:

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
The world of Fullmetal Alchemist is styled after the European Industrial Revolution. Set in a fictional universe in which alchemy is one of the most advanced scientific techniques known to man, the story follows the brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric, who want to restore their bodies after a disastrous failed attempt to bring their mother back to life through alchemy.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a remake of the first anime adaptation. This version upholds the original storyline in the manga.

Manga author: Hirumo Arakawa
No. of episodes: 27 (as of October 12, 2009)
First aired: April 5, 2009
Day it releases in Japan: Monday
Where to find it: Eclipse Subs

Comments: Even though I haven't watched the first adaptation, I can say I'm thankful that I didn't because the first one diverged from the manga. I can't wait to watch the future episodes.

Fairy Tail
(first aired: October 12, 2009, day release in Japan: Monday)
(info directly from Wikipedia)

A young sorceress, Lucy Heartfilia, travels to the land of Fiore to join the magical Fairy Tail guild. Along the way, she meets Natsu Dragneel, a teenage boy looking for a dragon named Igneel. Natsu rescues her and reveals that he is the real Salamander and has the skills of a Dragon Slayer. He offers her membership into the guild, which she accepts, and they become a team performing various missions for the Fairy Tail guild. (couldn't make a comment to this anime because this one's just released last Monday... will put up a review once i've watched more.)

And there, that was all the anime I'm watching right now. Hope you will enjoy Japan's greatest modern legacy to the world.
